Guy’s and St Thomas' Hospitals London
Kimpton’s acoustic ‘care’ for hospitals help meet energy efficiency targets
The Client
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London’s most well known teaching hospitals. The hospitals have a long history, dating back almost 900 years, and have been at the forefront of medical innovation and progress since they were founded. Both hospitals have built on these traditions and continue to have a reputation for excellence and innovation providing around ¾ million patient contacts in acute and specialist hospital services every year.
The Challenge
The public sector is under pressure to meet government-led carbon reduction initiatives and the Trust aims to make energy savings by investing in new technologies and upgrading existing infrastructure to install more energy efficient equipment.
The next step in the Trust carbon reduction plan is the installation of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units at both sites.
The Solution
Kimpton were responsible for the design, supply and installation of the combined heat and power generating set acoustic enclosure and associated ventilation.
The enclosures provide the highest level of noise control while maintaining the ability to access, service, and maintain the unit. Meticulous attention to detail ensured the final product met all the necessary requirements.
The CHP installation should meet a large part of the normal site base electrical demand and reduce the overall cost of imported electricity, saving £1.7 million in energy costs and reduce carbon emissions by 7,300 tonnes for the trust.
Testimonial
“Whilst the CHP installation was essential for the Trust to meet its energy efficiency targets, noise levels needed to be kept to a minimum due to the hospital environment - all requirements were achieved”. |
