A sound solution for meeting carbon reduction targets

Acoustic noise enclosures manufactured and fitted by Kimpton have ensured the successful installation of Combined Heat & Power systems at several major UK hospitals.

As part of a government-backed initiative, Kimpton have been involved in the installations at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals in London.

“Energy usage in hospitals is intensive due to 24 hour functioning and the range and complexity of diagnostic and treatment equipment being used - 45 million gigajoules of energy is consumed annually by the NHS.

Combined heat and power technology uses the heat produced as a by-product of power generation to generate electricity, increasing overall energy efficiency to 80% - acoustic noise enclosures ensure the systems to not cause disruption in the hospital environment and are essential for successful installation”, explained managing director Richard Kimpton.

Combined Heat and Power systems are one of many initiatives being adopted by hospitals investing in new technologies and upgrading existing infrastructure as they come under increasing pressure to meet government-led carbon reduction initiatives.

The Department of Health has set a mandatory target for the NHS to reduce its carbon emissions by 0.15 million tonnes by 2010 and last year £100 million funding programme was put in place to improve electrical efficiency, building insulation and combined heat and power installations.
