SOLAR ENERGY AND MICRO-GENERATION
Technology to harness solar energy can be used to provide lighting, power and heat, save energy and generate electricity.
Solar thermal systems incorporating solar panels are economic and practical and are an ideal starting point for Clients to enter the Renewables Arena to cater for the provision of hot water and potentially heating.
With the implementation of Feed-in-Tariffs and significant enhancement to manufacturing processes, Photovoltaic installations (solar panels which generate electricity – often referred to as micro-generation) are set to offer a viable sustainable alternative and supplement to grid–connected electricity supply systems.
Solar PV is particularly beneficial where electricity requirements peak at times of high sunshine and to provide and generally supplement the power requirements for lighting, ventilation and comfort cooling.
Sun pipes are being extensively used to supplement lighting systems to provide natural day light in deep plan and internal rooms.
Kimpton can investigate the potential for utilising Solar for generating electricity, hot water and heating on an individual basis or as part of an overall project and also advise on how to improve the environmental performance of the building structure.
